Overview
The Anderson Police Department uses Flock Safety technology to enhance public safety by providing officers with objective investigative leads while protecting individual privacy and civil liberties. The system serves as a force multiplier, helping officers investigate crimes, recover stolen vehicles, locate wanted individuals, and improve community safety.
The Department primarily uses Flock Safety’s retroactive search capabilities to investigate crimes after they occur. Investigators can search for vehicles based on objective characteristics, such as license plate numbers, vehicle descriptions, or the date, time, and location a vehicle was observed, to generate investigative leads and identify suspects.
The Anderson Police Department also utilizes real-time hotlist alerts to notify officers when vehicles associated with legitimate public safety issues are detected. These alerts include stolen vehicles, wanted criminals, sex offenders and other authorized law enforcement notifications, enabling officers to recover stolen property, apprehend offenders, and respond more effectively to ongoing incidents.
To ensure responsible use of this technology, the Anderson Police Department has adopted comprehensive policies governing authorized access, appropriate use, auditing, and accountability. Access to the system is restricted to authorized personnel, all searches are logged and subject to review, and usage statistics and policies are made available to the public to promote transparency and maintain community trust.
